meet their needs, and fulfill their visions. At Entropy Limited we
recognize that our success is measured by our client’s success in
accomplishing their goals. The president
of Entropy Limited is Joel R. Stine.
Joel began Entropy Limited in 1992. He is licensed in the State of
Colorado, and has practiced in architecture for seventeen years. Over that time, Joel has
accumulated a significant degree of experience in residential design and
project management. ARCHITECTURAL
SERVICES Typical
architectural services for a project with Entropy Limited begin with a
thorough exploration of existing conditions. Whether the project involves an
addition to an existing structure or even if it is new construction in a
pristine location, it is critical to understand and record the physical,
municipal, environmental, cultural and personal context of the
project. These elements are
researched, recorded and reviewed with the client. Thereby establishing the
constraints and potential resources for the project
design. Concurrently
with this process of establishing the existing conditions, interviews are
held with the client to identify their goals and visions for the
project. Obviously, the
nature of these interviews can vary greatly with the client and project
scope. Clear communications
are critical at this stage to begin a process that ends with the client’s
success in creating their vision.
At Entropy Limited our experience and emphasis on great
communication, serves to ensure our client’s
success. Once these
elements have been identified and recorded, the actual design process
begins. We employ a
collaborative design process between the architect and the client. This process takes the form of a
series of meetings between the architect and client. Each successive meeting deals with
finer design detail. During
each of these meetings, the architect will present several design
solutions pertinent to the current level of design. These possible solutions are
analyzed based upon the architect’s experience, and the client’s goals and
visions, resulting in a design direction from which greater detailed
design can be applied. This
type of coordinated process between the architect and client results in a
design that more fully meets the client’s goals and fulfills their
vision. At an
appropriate stage of the design process, our structural engineer will be
brought into the project to review the design and verify its structural
integrity. And at other
suitable times other design specialists can be brought in to add their
expertise as necessary to accomplish the client’s goals and visions. Whatever the design or engineering
specialty, Entropy Limited takes responsibility to coordinate their
individual designs with the overall design and with each other, resulting
in a cohesive project, free of conflicting
elements. As the project
progresses towards greater definition, we begin to document the design
with construction drawings.
One of the most important services Entropy Limited provides to our
clients is a well-coordinated and masterfully detailed set of construction
drawings. The most creative
and strikingly beautiful designs will fail miserably, if they are not well
communicated to the tradespeople building them. In addition, a finely detailed set
of construction drawings will allow bidding contractors to take the
guesswork out of their bids.
This enables them to provide their lowest bid possible and elevates
the bids from competing contractors to a level playing field. Thus, evaluating bid discrepancies
becomes a much easier process.
And, once a contractor has been selected and construction is
under-way, an excellent set of drawings will keep construction cost
overruns to a bare minimum. With the
completion of construction drawings, Entropy Limited assists in
identifying potential contractors, and in distributing drawings to those
contractors. During the bid
process, we make ourselves available to the contractor’s to answer any
questions they may have. And
if clarifications to the drawings become necessary, we distribute them to
all the bidding contractors. Over the years
Entropy Limited has worked with numerous contractors. Many of those we have recommended
to our clients again. Some we
have not recommended again.
Some contractors are more suitable for projects of a certain size,
or level of detail, or schedule requirements, or for any of a number of
specific project goals. Some
of the attributes we look for in the contractors we recommend include
competent communication skills, solid financial practices, jobsite safety
and cleanliness, ample liability insurance coverage, excellent warranty
service practices, and long standing relationships with subcontractors who
also embody these attributes.
There are many reasons to use the services of a particular
contractor, their bid price being only one. Evaluating contractors and bids
are just some of the typical services Entropy Limited provides for our
clients. Often drawings
are submitted for review by the building department concurrently with the
bidding process in order to save time. We work closely with the building
department to resolve any design or documentation issues. Because of the highly detailed
nature of our construction drawings, we rarely have any review comments
from the building department.
This allows the building department review to proceed in a minimum
amount of time and thereby saves our clients resources for more tangible
uses. Finally,
during the construction phase of the project, Entropy Limited plays a
significant role in assuring a successful conclusion to the project. We work closely with both the
client and the contractor to promote good communication between all
parties. More than any other
aspect of the building process, good communication keeps the project
moving along on time, on budget, and true to the original design intent.
Some of our typical services at this stage of the process include regular
construction site inspections, the preparation of clarifying details,
regular construction meetings with the contractor and owner, reviewing and
advising owners regarding contract change requests, review of the
contractor’s applications for payment, and the final project review and
closeout. It is our goal to
make the entire process as simple and stress-free as possible for our
clients. PROJECT

Limited we understand that providing excellent service to our clients,
means much more than just great design. We believe that the practice of
Architecture is twenty percent design and eighty percent
communication. Whether we are
communicating with our clients to understand their project goals and
visions, or whether we are communicating with the building department to
express our compliance with the various codes, or whether we are
communicating with the tradespeople who must fashion raw materials into
those visions and goals; we take as much pride in our ability to
communicate as we do in our ability to design.
